Mombasa, KENYA: Seven county askaris were on Monday arrested by the police after a confrontation over alleged land grabbing.

According to governor Joho, a police commander ordered the arrest of County Inspectorates who were enforcing county laws.

Addressing the press outside Nyali Police station, Joho said the inspectorates were acting on orders given by the county government to prevent illegal construction in the county.

“We no longer can enforce county laws because of the fear of the police, we are in a situation where police are supervising illegal construction. On Friday somebody was building a wall on top of our pipeline.” Said Joho.

Joho demanded the release of the county inspectorates whom he claims were detained since morning.
