Nairobi, KENYA: Matatu Owners Association (MOA) chairman Simon Kimutai has welcomed the move by the Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Banning Matatus from getting to city centre.
Kimutai on Tuesday said that the move should be taken positively by Matatus owners as it is the only way of reducing the struggle and time taken to get to town.
He argued that, more profit will be generated, bearing in mind that a lot of fuel is consumed when Matatus tries to maneuver in and out of the city centre.
“It doesn’t help me when traffic is there, we lose a lot in terms of fuel and wastage in general, so I am of the agreement we need to decongest the city.” Kimtai alluded.
The chairman, urged other players to play as a team and accept the initiative of trying to minimize the congestion in Nairobi.
The move comes barely a day when the governor of Nairobi on Monday lifted the ban for a month to pave way for Matatus owners’ to regulate themselves and negotiate on the way forward before the ban takes effect.
