Kenya’s women soccer team Harambee Starlets registered one of the biggest victory in the history of the Confederation of Southern African Football Associations COSAFA championship by overwhelming Mauritius 11-0 on Saturday.
Starlets showed no mercy to their opponents from the first whistle and were leading 4-0 by the half time through Mwanahalima Adam who opened the scoring in the 9th minute, with Neddy Atieno netting her second hat-trick in as many matches.
The Richard Kanyi coached side continued its dominance after the break where Lucy Mukhwana scored a brace adding to goals from Dorcas Shikobe and substitute Cherish Avilia to completing the damage.
Starlets’ who beat Mozambique 5-2 in the opening match, are already through to the semi-finals of the championship but will need at least a draw from their final group match against Lesotho to top the group to avoid meeting Group A leaders.
