Government tightening noose on hate mongers,Matiangi

Mombasa,KENYA:The two politicians arrested and prosecuted over hate speech remarks are just an example,more will be arrested acting internal cs Fred Matiang’i has said.

Gatundu south MP Moses Kuria and former Machakos  senator Johnstone Muthama have so far been charged over incitement remarks in court.

Matiangi who was speaking at the Uhuru na Kazi building in Mombasa  on Thursday said the government was committed to ensuring the hate mongers are apprehended and prosecuted before the court.

He said police were working closely with other bodies to bring the culprits to book regardless of their political affiliations.

“It is our responsibility to make sure law and order is kept in the country,that includes apprehending those caught engaging in criminal conduct that may affect electoral process ,”said Dr Matiang’i.

He warned that they will not say again what to do but just do it directly.

“You have seen what we have done this week, we are going to intensify those efforts in that respect. We would not have room in our country for political leaders who divide our country while hurting our people,”he added.

“We will act on the suspects without fear or favour,”the CS added.

He called on leaders and especially political leaders to respect and adhere to the law so as to be on the safe side.

Presidential polls

Concerning the presidential elections the CS  assured that the IEBC officials  will be provided with enough security.

He said stringent measures had been put in place to deal with any eventualities which may arise on the 17th  of October.

“All 290 returning officers and officials will be provided with enough security,we are totally prepared to facilitate the iebc the way we did in the August  8 polls .”said the CS.

He said police and security teams don’t run elections but to facilitate the IEBC officials to conduct the presidential elections.
