“Our people are suffering from this killer disease in this County which is now alarming,” Kingi said.

“We have decided to halt the renovation of other health facilities in order to construct this complex to deal with these cases here because not many people from here have the capacity to go to Kenyatta hospital or abroad for treatment,” he added.

The complex is set to be comprised of a High dependence unit, Intensive care unit and two state of the art theaters for screening of cancer patients.

He said the project is expected to be completed in a one and a half years’ time.

“This eight story complex will comprise of all essential units which will reduce the cost of travelling and treatment of our people,” said Kingi.

“As we all know, our people have had to travel to Mombasa Coast General Hospital for treatment of such diseases and sometimes fail to be attended to in time due to the high numbers of waiting patients. This complex will for the first time in 54 years of independence serve the entire coast region,” he added.

Statics show that every year average of 250 people are diagnosed with different types of cancer with cervical cancer cases leading the list.
