Madrid, SPAIN: Kenyan international Michael Olunga began his career at new club Girona FC in the best way he had hoped for.

The towering forward showed his goal scoring prowess by netting a brace during his side’s 8-0 thumping of minnows CF Ripoll in a test match played Monday night.

This was Olunga’s first match since joining the club on loan from Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng F.C of China during the just concluded August transfer window.

Olunga made headlines earlier this year when he ditched Swedish side IF Djurgadens for Guizhou for a fee believed to be Sh460m, only to fall in the pecking order hence his temporary release by the club.

At Girona, he becomes the second Kenyan after Mcdonald Mariga to feature in the Spanish La Liga which is ranked amongst the top five European best leagues.

Girona earned its promotion to the top tier league last season and kicked off its campaign in a remarkable note holding giants Atletico Madrid in a two all draw in the opening match of the season.

They welcome Athletic Club on Sunday where Olunga will be looking to make his La Liga debut after impressing in the friendly.
