Mombasa,KENYA:Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho’s family and his friends are the ones who wil be sponsoring his inauguration ceremony.
This is according to the director of communication for the Mombasa county government Richard Chacha.
Chacha who spoke to Baraka FM on Monday, further revealed that the county coffers would contribute less than a million shillings for the inauguration scheduled to be held on Tuesday at the mama Ngina grounds.
“We do not have a huge budget, as our basic requirements are the printing of invitation cards, putting up of the dias and maybe water” Chacha told Baraka FM.
Last week the Mombasa county secretary Francis Thoya told a local newspaper that the governor had ordered more than 80% of his 15 million inauguration budget slashed.
Other governors who have ordered their inauguration budgets slashed, have ordered the money redirected to other avenues e.g paying of Nairobi county workers, providing of water for Kitui residents and paying of electricity bills at the Karatina sub-county hospital.
However Thoya did not reveal where the slashed budget would be redirected to and neither did Chacha too.
“There was no physical budget as such, it was just an estimate figure so county finance department will only release the 15% budget approved by the governor which might even be lesser as most the inauguration budget is being sponsored by friends and family,” Chacha added.
The Mombasa governor is to be inaugurated on Tuesday a day after his counterparts in Kwale, Kilifi and Nairobi.
