While speaking to the media in Mombasa on Tuesday ,Shabhal denied occurrence of the meeting which is said to have strategized on forming a coalition in a bid to edge out the incumbent governor Ali Hassan Joho who is seeking reelection on an ODM party ticket.

“There was no meeting, I was equally surprised to see such reports as the last time we met was in 2013 when we were all in Wiper,” Shabhal said.

Shabhal expressed confidence that he would clinch the Mombasa gubernatorial seat Saying that the race was between Jubilee and ODM and there was no need to hold a secret meeting since they were all contenders.
