Mombasa,KENYA:Jubilee gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shabhal has denied that he held a secret meeting with his rivals Hezron Awiti of VDP and Hassan Omar Sarai of Wiper democratic movement.
While speaking to the media in Mombasa on Tuesday ,Shabhal denied occurrence of the meeting which is said to have strategized on forming a coalition in a bid to edge out the incumbent governor Ali Hassan Joho who is seeking reelection on an ODM party ticket.
“There was no meeting, I was equally surprised to see such reports as the last time we met was in 2013 when we were all in Wiper,” Shabhal said.
Shabhal expressed confidence that he would clinch the Mombasa gubernatorial seat Saying that the race was between Jubilee and ODM and there was no need to hold a secret meeting since they were all contenders.
Earlier in the Month, the 3 aspirants accused the incumbent Joho of sabotaging their efforts to have their billboards erected in the city.
However, Shabhal who has managed to erect several billboards around Mombasa told reporters that it is through the attention of the media that he was able to find locations to erect his billboards.
Opinion polls conducted by Pollster Trends and Insights for Africa in March, revealed that the incumbent Governor Hassan Joho would garner 68% of the votes while Shahbal would come in second with 15% of the votes with Omar and Awiti both garnering 10% of the votes.
