Former TJRC chairperson Bethwel Kiplagat dies at 82

Nairobi, KENYA: Former Truth and Justice and Reconciliation Commission TJRC chairperson Bethuel Kiplagat is dead.

Kiplagat, 82, died at the Nairobi Hospital on Friday morning, according to officials who spoke to his family.

Ambassador Kiplagat, a former diplomat and Kenyan government official, served as TJRC chairman from 2009 to November 2010.

He resigned after coming under investigation for alleged past human rights abuses, particularly his role in the 1984 Wagalla Massacre.

He died at 3am but there was no immediate confirmation on the cause but reports said he had been ailing for a while.
