Mombasa,KENYA:The operations of Barclays Wundanyi branch in Taita Taveta County  are set to be moved to Voi after the Bank management announced the closure of several branches on Monday.

This according to an email to staff on Monday where the Bank Managing director Jeremy Awori said that 7 branches among them the One in Wundanyi had been earmarked for closure in October.

The statement also said that the bank was in contacts with customers in the affected branches in regards to the transition of the accounts.

“Further, for more convenience, customers have the opportunity to choose any other branch where they would prefer to have their accounts hosted. We therefore expect a smooth transition with minimal or no disruption in serving our customers.” Read part of the statement.

Other Branches set to be closed down was one in Nakumatt Meru and 5 other in Nairobi.

However the statement goes further to clarify that employees in the affected branches would not loose their jobs.

The Bank is one of the foreign banks that lost a huge chunk of the market share of low income earners  to Kenyan banks in the early 2000’s owing to its stringent rules on minimum account balance.
