Lamu,KENYA:Five people among them four police officers from the Mangai Rapid Border patrol Unit-RBPU in Lamu East and a civilian are feared dead after their vehicle,an armored police car-APC ran over an IED suspected to have been planted by Alshabaab militants and exploded at Baure area on Wednesday morning.

The vehicle had on board seven RBPU officers who were heading to Motown town in Lamu west for refueling before the incident occurred at around 9am.

KDF officers from the Baure KDF camp promptly responded and rushed to the rescue of the officers.
The KDF however faced a hard time after they were also attacked by the militants as they rushed to help.
The officers however managed to repulse the militants and rushed to the scene where they found four bodies of officers in uniform and one civilian.

Two of the officers are yet to be traced and it’s highly suspected that they might have been taken hostage by the militants.

Both Linda Boni operation director James Seriani and county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri couldn’t be reached for comment as their phones went unanswered before they were switched off.
