More than 2000 turn up for the Mater heart run in Mombasa

More than 2000 people have turned up for the Mombasa edition of the Mater Heart run aimed at raising funds to support those with cardiac problems.

The race  was flagged off at the KPA Mbaraki sports club  then  followed through Mama Ngina, Kizingo and Back to Mbaraki sports club.

The race was organized by the Mater hospital in conjunction with several sponsors who included the Sarova hotels,Kenya Maritime Authority, Kengen, Baraka FM and Ketepa.

After the race the event attendees got the chance to be entertained by high flying artistes Susumila and Naiboy.

Speaking with Baraka FM Pastor William Salasia one of the beneficiaries of the program urged Kenyans and corporate to support the event saying that  it gave hope to those who did not have funds to facilitate cardiac operations.

“I would urge Kenyans to help out as the funds  have really helped some of us who couldn’t have afforded the treatment.” Salasia said.

Salasia’s daughter was operated on last year after her family discovered her condition .

Salasia told Baraka FM that he had despaired before Mater hospital offered to help as his family was unable to raise the funds required.

Similar marathons were held in different towns across the country  .
