Another suspected wakali kwanza gang member killed by an irate mob


Mombasa, KENYA: A man believed to be a member of the dreaded Wakali Kwanza criminal gang terrorizing Mombasa residents was on Friday morning killed by an irate mob in kaama Kongowea, Kisauni, while eight others escaped, police confirmed.

This brings the number of criminal gang members five killed in the area in a span of two days.

Four others were shot dead by police in Mshomoroni area Thursday night and several machetes recovered.

The suspect,26,hails from Kisumu ndogo area according to police, and he has been terrorizing residents for a long time.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the gang was armed with crude weapons and they had attempted to rob a businessman in the area, but the mission was repulsed by the irate mob.

Police efforts to save the suspect were futile as one was caught and dosed with petrol before he was set a blaze.

Eight others managed to escape.

Kisauni police chief Christopher Rotich confirmed the killings of the suspect to Baraka FM saying police were after the other eight who escaped.

“We don’t encourage the public to take the law in their own hands, it is against the law. We are also issuing stern warning to the suspects who escaped, we are calling them to surrender before the law catches up with them,” said police boss.
