Terror suspect nabbed in Likoni,Mombasa

Mombasa,KENYA:Police in Likoni, Mombasa have arrested a terror suspect and recovered deadly weapons.

The suspect identified as Juma Mwangoh Athman was arrested by anti terrorism police drawn  from Kwale and Mombasa counties in Shika Adabu area on Friday evening in  a joint operation that lasted for two hours.

More than 50 armed anti terrorism police who had been tipped off staged the raid at around 7.00pm at the suspects compound.

Police recovered two hand grenades,poaches of Ak47 rifle, military  jackets,binoculars,assorted CDs,10 ammunition of 5.56mm and other weapons among other weapons in the operation.Police also recovered phones and sim cards.

A police  source who spoke to Baraka FM in condition of anonymity said the suspect might have  returned from Somalia and was on a mission to carry out  an attack on Friday.

Likoni deputy police chief confirmed the arrest but declined speak about the matter.

Another source said the suspect was likely to be detained at the police headquarters due to security reasons.

The arrest comes barely a day after  the inspector general of police Joseph Boinnet issued a terror alert warning Kenyans that some 9 terrorists were planning to sneak back into the country from Somalia on a mission to carry out attack.
