Nairobi, KENYA: Parliamentary committee on Agriculture has clashed with Water and Irrigation CS Eugene Wamalwa over a letter he wrote to the committee that it has no mandate to interfere with the procurement process of the ministry, including a 62 Thwake multi-billion water project.

Kikuyu Member of Parliament who is also a member of the committee Kimani Ichungwa blasted Wamalwa saying that such communication was in bad taste aiming at intimidating legislature.

The development prompted committee chair Adan Noor to halt the meeting to discuss the matter.

Earlier, the committee members disagreed after the cabinet secretary failed to attend the meeting whereby Ugunja legislator Opiyo Wandayi accused him of accompanying the President Uhuru Kenyatta to campaign in Kisii.

However, Agriculture Principal Secretary Nduati Mwangi clarified that the CS went to Kisii to mark World Water day which will be marked in the county on Wednesday.

The chair directed that the principal secretary appear before the committee on Wednesday and the CS on Thursday to give light on the project.
