Mombasa, KENYA:The physically challenged community in Mombasa is urging all the disabled groups who have attained the age of 18 to come out in large numbers to be registered as voters before the nationwide registration exercise is terminated.

Speaking to journalists at Mvita Primary School on Friday, the chairman of the Mombasa County Disability Leaders Forum, Mohammed Mahsum, said that they are fulfilling their constitutional right by voting.

Mahsum  stated that it is through active participation that their grievances would be heard.

He has urged the entire disabled groups to form a united front that will champion for their constitutional right in various political positions.

The official has said Mombasa county has an estimated population of between ten to twenty thousand disabled people.

‘’Let us form a united front that will champion for our rights. Mombasa county has a total of between ten to twenty thousand,’’ he said.

On the other hand, Josphat Musungu one of the leaders in Mombasa wants the new IEBC to ensure that they are fully involved in all constitutional portfolios.

Musungu has lamented that they were not fully represented in 2013.

‘’We were not fully represented in 2013, and therefore I ask the new IEBC to consider the matter,’’ he lamented.
