Arrest drug barons since you know them, Joho tells gov’t

Mombasa,KENYA:Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan has accused the Government for politicizing the war on illegal drug business that has sparked recently.

Responding to claims linking him with drugs, the infuriated Joho pointed fingers on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto for being what he called ‘dishonest on issue’.

He also challenged the government to arrest and prosecute persons conducting the business if they have evidence.

‘’Stop playing politics with the issue of drugs. If you know individuals, come out clear, arrest and prosecute. Do not deceive Kenyans for your own political gain,’’ he said.

Joho accused the government of doing little yet it knows the source of drugs.

’Nobody has told me that I am under arrest nor being investigated, so let stop playing jokes with this matter. It is the role of the Government to secure its borders. Where do this drug does comes from?’’ he posed.

Joho further claimed Jubilee leaders are using the drug issue against him to frustrate his bid of defending his gubernatorial seat in the General Election, a move he stated would turn futile.

‘’They want to unseat me using crooked ways. I know they are on a mission to tarnish my name trying to woo votes in Mombasa by diverting people’s attention, when the truth is that the Jubilee regime has done little to the residents in terms of development,’’ Joho claimed.

Joho however admitted that Mombasa has been adversely affected by drug especially the youths saying there are hundreds of young people affected.

He nonetheless defended his leadership saying the County Government is working to help the affected youths rehabilitate and has arrested people purported to be running the illegal business in the county.

Joho’s sentiments come at a time the Government has warned to take stern action against drug barons in the country.
