Suspect nabbed with firearm during a botched robbery in Mombasa


Mombasa, KENYA: Police in Majengo Mombasa have arrested a suspected armed robber.

The suspect Tobias Ogada,35 was arrested in Mnarani Majengo area in Mombasa armed with a revolver pistol and ammunition, after attacking a business woman.

The other suspect escaped and police believe he was also armed with a firearm.

The duo had attacked Halima Abdi a businesswoman but she manage to raise an alarm attracting the public; who caught up with one and decided to do mob justice on him.

The suspect was saved by police officers who were in patrol, as the public wanted to set him a blaze.

Mombasa police boss Lucas Ogara said they have forwarded the details for ballistic identification at headquarters to ascertain the owner of the gun.

“The firearm had two ammunitions by then. We have identified it is a revolver and it might be of a police officer or a civilian owner,” said Mr. Ogara.

He noted that the victim has so far identified the suspect and he will be arraigned in court after investigations are over.

He urged the public to report to police whereabouts of the suspect who escaped wherever they spotted him, adding that a manhunt is underway.
