The Kenya Defense forces has come out to deny claims of the killing of over 50 soldiers at a Kenyan military camp in Kulbiyow, Lower Jubba, Somalia, some 18 kilometres from the Kenyan border by Alsha baab militants.

KDF spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Paul Njuguna denied the claim that al Shabaab had killed dozens of soldiers but failed to give any casualty figures.

In a statement, Njuguna said al Shabaab attackers used a vehicle packed with explosives to try to blast their way into the KDF camp.

“KDF soldiers repulsed the terrorists, killing scores,” he said.

Earlier, Reuters reported that A spokesman for al Shabaab had said its fighters had killed at least 66 Kenyans at the Kenyan base attack during the 5 am Friday incident.

The Voice of America reports that al shabaab drove a truck filled with explosives and detonated them inside the base, followed by heavy gunfire and an infantry attack.
