At least 10 injured in Likoni accident


Mombasa, KENYA: At least ten people were on Sunday seriously injured in an accident along Likoni-Ukunda road, Mombasa.

The accident which involved a 14-seater matatu and a school minibus, occurred at Kona Mpya in Likoni.

The school minibus had been hired to transport guests and family members who were attending a wedding ceremony.

The driver of the Nissan matatu identified as Juma Mohammed sustained serious injuries in his pelvic, while that of the minibus was unhurt.

Police said the Nissan matatu which was coming from mtongwe towards ferry hit the minibus head on causing the accident.

Likoni deputy police boss Anthony Shimoli said the victims were treated at a local dispensary and released.

He noted that both the vehicles were damaged and were towed to Likoni police station as investigations commenced.
