Lamu, KENYA: A middle aged man drowned to death after his vehicle,a Toyota Auris slid and plunged into a river at Milihoi area on the Lamu-Mpeketoni route on Thursday afternoon.
Police have identified the man as Martin Asman and said he was over speeding the vehicle shortly before he lost control and plunged into the river which was full.
Police said due to the rains that had pounded the area,the road was slippery something they said made it hard for the over speeding driver to control his vehicle.
The man had left Lamu and was heading to Mpeketoni before the accident happened.
“He was driving insanely fast.As he was negotiating the corner around the river,the vehicle slid because it had just rained and was thus slippery, and plunged into the river which was so overflowing at the moment.He drowned since his body didn’t have any other injuries,”said the officer.
Lamu county commander Muchangi Kioi confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway to establish more.
The body has been taken to the Mpeketoni mortuary.
