Likoni man suspected of killing his relatives arrested

The suspect in the murder of 80-yr-old grandmother and 51-yr-old woman in Likoni, Mombasa County has been arrested.

22-yr-old Ali Abdalla Gatana Kura was arrested on Thursday night following a tip-off.

“Ali Abdalla Gatana Kura a Digo male adult aged 22yrs was arrested while on the run within Manyatta, Likoni area heading to ferry direction to unknown destination, suspect arrested and escorted to Likoni police station to be charged with murder pending recovery of murder weapon,” read a police report from Inuka police station.

The incident took place on Wednesday at Ujamaa village in Shonda location, Likoni sub-county.

“It was reported by one Mr.Chigoro Kasim, a resident of Ujamaa that his wife Sira Bakari Kura, Digo aged 51yrs and his mother Binti Omar Kasim, Digo aged 80yrs were stabbed with a knife by one Ali Abdalla Gatana Kura aged 22yrs and were rushed to Diani beach hospital Shika Adabu branch and Likoni sub-county hospital respectively,” read a police report.

51-year-old Sira Bakari had six stab wounds. She was confirmed dead on arrival at Diani Beach hospital. Meanwhile 80-yr-old Binti Omar sustained three stab wounds. She succumbed to injuries while undergoing first aid at Likoni sub-county hospital.

According to police reports, the suspect is a realtive to thw deceased and is said to be mentally ill.
