More exhibitors have shown interest in this year’s Mombasa International Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show, which will take place in less than a month.

Speaking at the showgrounds in Nyali sub-county, Mombasa ASK Chair Anisa Abdalla said around 150 exhibitors had already registered for the 2023 Mombasa ASK Show compared to 95 during the same period in 2022.

“This year’s show will be packed, we are expecting guests from everywhere. The governor has promised to invite his colleagues from other counties, also through the County’s Agriculture Department, the governor will be putting up billboards welcoming people to Mombasa for the show from next week,” said Anisa.

“Unlike before when exhibitors used to come to us, this year we are the ones who went to them. We went to the old, new, and current exhibitors and convinced them to be part of the show,” she added.

The Mombasa ASK Chair also said they are expecting 90 percent of schools from the coast region to attend this year’s show slated for the 6th to 10th of September.

“We first went to the Regional Education Coordinator who gave us the go-ahead. We then spoke to County Education Directors from all counties in the region; Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, and Taita Taveta,” she said.

“The show will take place one week after schools re-open so we want learners to be brought here for some learning opportunities. It is part of their curriculum,” she added.

This year’s Mombasa ASK Show program will kick off on Friday 1st September with prayers at Mkomani Mosque followed by Harvest Festival at ACK Cathedral on Sunday 3rd September. The pre-show will be on Monday followed by judging which will take place on Tuesday.

“Wednesday 6th September will be Governor’s Day then the Show will be officially opened by President William Ruto on Thursday 7th September. Friday will be Maritime Day followed by Family Day on Saturday and Sunday,” said Anisa.

The Mombasa ASK Chair welcomes everyone to the show promising a fully packed week.

Also at the briefing was Bandari Sacco Chief Executive Officer Joseph Otieno, who is among the exhibitors who will be at this year’s show.
