Football lovers in Mombasa County had a treat after Coca-Cola organized a public screening of the 2022 World Cup finals.

The Sunday event saw fans drawn from different parts of the island coming together to watch the finals that pitted Argentina’s ‘La Albiceleste’ against France’s ‘Les Bleus’.

The finals saw Argentina beat France (4-2) during penalty shootouts after a 3-3 draw during regular and extra time.

Coca-Cola screened the entire game at Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa at an event that started with entertainment activities and culminated with several football fans being awarded following a raffle.

Hundreds of football fans showed up geared up and excited to cheer their favorite teams with Messi and Mbappe carrying the day.

Also in attendance were Coca-Cola Mombasa staff, different industry stakeholders, partners, and all-around football fans who got the chance to watch the match live in front of the huge screens.

Consumers who predicted the winning score walked away with different prices, with two of them Eric Metian and Tracy Amina winning a 2-door fridge and a washing machine respectively courtesy of the Coca-Cola company.

Lionel Messi put Argentina in the lead following a penalty after Angel Di Maria was fouled inside France’s penalty box. A second goal from Di Maria put the Argentine side 2-0 ahead of the French side in the first half of the game.

A penalty and a goal from Kylian Mbappe in the 80th and 81st minutes of the second half saw ‘Les Blue’ come from 2-0 down to level up before the referee blew the last whistle of regular time.

A goal from Messi and a penalty kick from Mbappe put the scores at 3-3 throwing the game into a penalty shootout.
