Ruto, Raila lead Kenyans in celebrating Faith Kipyegon’s 1500m Gold

Deputy President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga led Kenyans in congratulating Faith Kipyegon who has clinched first gold medal for the country in the ongoing World Athletic Championship in Oregon, US.

The two leaders took to their social media platforms to celebrate Kipyegon who clocked 3:52.96 to defend the title she won in Doha in 2019.

Other leaders who also celebrated the victory through their social media are Gideon Moi, National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi, Jackson Mandago among others.

Kipyegon is the only Kenyan woman to have won the world title in the metric mile race and the second Kenyan to have won the Olympic title after Jebet Lagat in 2008 Beijing.

Kenya so far, has a total of six medals one Gold, three Silver and two Bronze having won the previous medals from Stanley Waithaka Mburu(silver),  Hellen Obiri(silver),  Judith Jeptum Korir(silver), Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi(bronze) and Conseslus Kipruto(bronze).
