The Kenya Defence Forces is currently carrying out a nationwide recruitment exercise.

The 10-days recruitment exercise kicked off on Monday 15th November 2021 and will end on Friday 26th November 2021.

The recruitment exercise is for General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets (Regular), General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets (Graduate degree holders), Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/women and Defence Forces Constables.

Candidates Requirements

Interested candidates should meet the following conditions and academic qualifications;

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen
  • Be in possession of a valid Kenyan National Identity Card. Additionally four copies of National ID and PIN Certificate will be required.
  • Be between age 18 and 26 for GSO Cadets and General Duty Recruits
    • Not above age 30 for Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/women with Certificate/ Government Trade Test.
    • Not above age 30 for Imams/ Chaplains and Medical Consultants
  • Have no criminal record
  • Minimum height of 1.60m (5ft 3in) for men and 1.52m (5ft) for women.
    • Minimum weight of 54.55kg (120lb) form men and 50kg (110lb) for women.
    • Body Mass Index (BMI) MUST be below 30.
    • Additionally, female candidates MUST NOT be pregnant at the time of the recruitment and during the entire duration of training.
  • Candidates must be medically fit and skin must be healthy devoid of large or deep scars and tattoos.
  • Specialist officers and Tradesmen/women should have a minimum of two years practising in their field of specialisation from the date of registration with the relevant regulatory/statutory body in Kenya.

Meanwhile, the academic qualifications required are;

  1. GSO Cadets must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one Science subject. Training for this category will cover three years leading to a BSc degree in Military Science and Security studies upon completion.
  2. GSO Cadets- Graduate Degree Holders must hold the minimum requirements for a GSO Cadet and be a degree holder from a recognized University/ Institution in any of the disciplines listed. Training for this category will take 12 months.
  3. Servicemen/women (General Duty) Recruits must hold a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in KCSE.
