Dutch national found dead in his Shanzu apartment

Police are investigating the murder of a Dutch national who was found dead in his apartment in Shanzu, Mombasa County.

55-year-old Herman Rouwenhorst was found dead in his apartment on Friday, with both his hands and legs tied and mouth gagged.

Coast regional police boss Paul Ndambuki said investigations are being carried out by a joint team of homicide investigators and cyber-crime analysts from Nairobi and their counterparts in Mombasa.

An injured guard was also found at the residence but succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Coast General hospital.

“Our investigators are already analyzing data and phone records of the deceased and the security guard which were recovered at the scene,” he said.

Riziki Cherono, the alleged girlfriend of the deceased was found in a vehicle by a passerby with her hands tied to the steering wheel.

According to Riziki, the attackers took her mobile phone and left the two deceased’s phones.

Investigations are underway to track Cherono’s phone.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating Herman’s businesses and accounts to see whether there is a connection to the murder.

Herman is said to have moved to Kenya six years ago and have two children with Cherono.
