A 40-year-old man is nursing serious injuries at a private hospital in Malindi, Kilifi County after he was allegedly beaten by police.

The victim Zakayo Kaimbunga, says he was attacked by police officers last week after he was found on the street during curfew hours.

Kaimbunga said the attack left his hand broken permanently. He also claimed the cops robbed him.

“My arm was broken. I have been forced to buy a steel plate from Mombasa at a cost of sh 25,000 to be fitted into my broken arm. Since I got injured, no cop has come to visit me”, he said.

Kaimbunga says he has already filed a report at the Malindi police station and obtained an OB number.

He also says he lodged a complaint with the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) over the incident.

Meanwhile, Francis Mutungi, a relative of the victim, claims police in the area have been using excessive force in enforcing COVID-19 containment measures.
