Coast region records 207 new COVID-19 cases as country infections rise by 1,344

Coastal counties registered 207 new COVID-19 infections, with Mombasa having the highest new infections in the region.

Mombasa recorded 133 new infections while Kilifi had 40 new cases.

Kwale came in third with 32 cases. Taita Taveta on the other hand recorded two cases.

Meanwhile, countrywide infections rose to 64,588 after 1,344 more people tested positive for the disease from a sample of 7,162 tested in the last 24 hours. National cumulative tests now stand at 753,959.

Of the new infections, 1,299 were Kenyans and 45 foreigners.

436 patients recovered from the disease, 297 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 139 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 43,095.

1,266 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,898 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 58 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 22 of whom are on ventilatory support and 31 on supplemental oxygen.

“Another 86 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 70 are in the general wards, while 16 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU),” said the Ministry of Health.

Fatality numbers rose to 1,154 after 24 patients succumbed to the disease.
