Malindi Member of Parliament will have to spend the weekend in police cells after failing to raise four million shillings bail money set by the court.

The MP and her co-accused, her bodyguard Geoffrey Okuto, who also failed to raise cash bail of 1.5 million or a bond of 1 million.

The two were granted cash bail after the office of the Director of Public Prosecution failed to provide enough reasons to the court as to why they should not be bailed out.

The court, however, directed the two to deposit their passports in court before being released and that they should present themselves to court whenever they are required and warned against interfering with the witnesses.

The two are accused of killing Gumbao Jola during the Ganda Ward by-election  campaigns in October last year.

They denied the charges.
