Ouma Oluga resigns as KMPDU secretary-general

Kenya Medical Practitioner and Dentist Board (KMPDU) Secretary general Ouma Oluga has resigned as the secretary-general following his new appointment as chief officer of Health in Nairobi County.

This is after the head of public service Joseph Kinyua directed ministry, departments and county governments to release 32 other officers to report to the director-general , Nairobi metropolitan services immediately but not later than 3 of April.

Oluga who has served in KMPDU for the last five years expressed his Joy by thanking the team that has been working with him in ensuring doctors’ rights are protected by all means.


He said, “It has been the honor of my life to serve as your Secretary-General for the last five years. While many of you have thanked me for the work that we continue to do, it is now my turn to say thank you”.


In the last five years, Oluga signed CBAs with 48 county governments and brought forth and permanently ended the struggles of the Internship of doctors.
He streamlined post-graduate training sponsorship and gave doctors a voice in society among many things.

” Doctors I have served you well and even though it was not my intention to give this address now more so during a pandemic, it is clear that you need a different direction than the one I am pursuing with you. Doctors you have served me well and made KMPDU the envy of many unions. Your unity, your engagement, your ideas and your constant efforts to make healthcare better. Especially making healthcare better,” He stated.

With the existence of Oluga as the KMPDU secretary-general, the union has appointed Dr. Chibanzi Mwachonda to take over as KMPDU Secretary-General.
