The Kenya Revenue Authority seized a consignment of 130 packages of Khat (miraa) at Vanga in Kwale county, as it was being illegally transported to Tanzania.
The package and the vehicle carrying it were intercepted at the Tanzania border following intelligence reports and were held at the customs warehouse at Lungalunga, KRA said in a statement.
Customs officials intercepted the vehicle as its occupants were offloading the cargo on to a boat to have it shipped to Tanzania.
One suspect believed to be the owner of the vehicle was arrested and was due to be arraigned in court to face charges of attempting to export without customs clearance.
Trade and consumption of Khat is outlawed in Tanzania and the suspect faces up to five years in jail if found guilty.
