Parliament to honor late president Moi with special sitting

The National Assembly is set to have a special sitting on Monday in a bid to honor the late retired president Daniel Arap Moi.

In a statement, the National Assembly clerk Michael Sialai said that the sitting was agreed upon by Majority leaders Aden Duale house speaker Justin Muturi.

The house is scheduled to transact various businesses including a motion, after a proclamation on the 4th of February 2020 following the demise of retired president Daniel Arap Moi and a motion on the alteration of the calendar of the house is a view of a presidential proclamation.

Other matters to be transacted on the material day include the notification message of the president in regards to persons nominated for appointment as cabinet secretaries and principal secretaries.

The slated schedule is pursuant to provisions of standing orders, 29(1)which gives a speaker a leeway to accede to the request of majority leader to convene special sitting for a given intended purpose.

“Having acceded to the request by of majority party has since appointed Monday, February 10th, 2020 afternoon as a day for a special sitting of the National Assembly chamber in the main parliamentary buildings Nairobi commencing 20:30 pm .”The statement read

This follows the decision by the state to slate February 8th,9th and 10th as days the remains of Moi will be in parliamentary buildings in order to allow members of the public to view the body.
