Two police officers have been killed while seven of their colleague’s sustained injuries after their vehicle hit an IED in Wajir.

According to a statement of the incident made at Wajir police station, the nine police officers had been patrolling the areas between Khorof Arar and Kutulo when their land cruiser hit an Improvised explosive device on Friday evening.

“Today at around 1600hrs special forces officers attached to Kotulo Patrol base while on their way from Khorof-Arar to Kotulo onboard their camp Land cruiser was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).” Read the police statement.

According to the Wajir county police commander, Thomas Ngweywa, the police officers belonged to the Special Forces.

Photo shared by police officers have shown a badly damaged Toyota Land cruiser vehicle whose roof was ripped off by the IED.

The attack comes just a few weeks after 11 people among them officers drawn from the Anti-theft stock police unit lost their lives after Alshabaab militants attacked a Mandera bound bus.

Over the past three months, suspected Alshabaab militants have carried out six attacks in Wajir County, a county.
