A research conducted by TIFA has revealed that 55 % of teenagers spend a lot of time watching pornographic materials with male teenagers being on the lead.

The research which was conducted in seven schools in the counties of Nairobi and Kiambu showed that young people are exposed to media platforms which contribute to the act.

Reading the report on Thursday in Nairobi, TIFA strategic director Kweya Gerry said that 25% of young people have had a sexual encounter by the age of 13 while 10% say they can’t remember.

The quantitative opinion poll in which 1141 respondents were interviewed also revealed 51% of teenagers especially male are aware of the use of condoms as a major contraceptive.

Use of emergency pills comes second with 34%.

However, 22% of teenagers prefer soft drinks like soda while 17% prefer Alcohol.

The opinion poll also learned that 70% of teenagers prefer staying at home during holidays while 67% will engage in clubbing activities and drinking alcohol/drugs, while 66% will find peace in religious activities.

The research showed that 46% of female teenagers are more knowledgeable on same-sex experience and awareness while male comes second at 37%.

TIFA found out 92% of teens are aware of consequences related to corruption while 6% are unaware and 2% with no response.

The opinion was conducted between 25th of January to 3rd April this year.
