Nairobi, KENYA: Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has asked Kenyans and stakeholders across the country to stop disparaging church leaders especially Prophet David Owuor and Pastor James Maina Nganga.

Speaking at parliament buildings in a media briefing on Thursday, Babu strongly defended the church leaders including pastors saying that it is repugnant for some Kenyans to insult.

Babu and his counterpart, nominated member of parliament Gideon Keter vowed to oppose any proposed legislation which will see church leaders vetted through a threshold of being degree holders before embarking on preaching .

They slammed people insulting preachers saying that it is improper to execute blanket condemnation to the clergy due to some few elements who have tarnished the name of the church.

“Let’s be excused about our religion. People should stop propaganda,” Babu said.

“ Why is the land story coming up now?” Babu posed.

Some critics say that church should be regulated through vetting so as to bring sanity in the church.
