Kilifi, KENYA: A class eight pupil in Midodoni primary school in Magarini, Kilifi County has been rescued after she was allegedly raped several times by her teacher.
The 15 year old girl was rescued and taken to a children center in Malindi.
According to Magarini Children’s Officer Sebastian Muteti, hospital reports show that the girl had been molested several times.
“The teacher tricked her parents into dropping the case by promising to marry the girl once she completed her primary school at the end of the year,” said Muteti.
Muteti said such an incident is not new in the area as cases of teachers defiling pupils have been witnessed severally in Magarini.
He said that he will not rest until the teacher, who is yet to be arrested, is in police custody.
A 2018 report by Children’s department in Kilifi stated that at least 13,624 pregnancies were reported in the County last year among school going children aged 15-19 years.
In the report, Kilifi North Sub-County led with 3,134 pregnancies, followed by Magarini with 2,861 and Kaloleni with 2,180.
Kilifi South and Malindi had 1,771 cases each while Ganze and Rabai had 1,362 and 545 cases respectively.
An additional 290 cases were reported among girls aged 10-14 years.
