Mombasa, KENYA: Three women were charged in Mombasa court for allegedly failing to protect a child aged 16 years from harmful cultural rites.
The court heard that Hawa Mohamed, Fariya Ahmed and Nasteh Ahmed being persons liable by law as the guardians to maintain a child aged 16 years willfully failed to protect the child from a harmful cultural rite namely early marriage that affected her dignity and psychological development.
The offense is alleged to have been committed on 15th February at Eastleigh in Nairobi County.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges before Mombasa senior resident magistrate Edigah Kagoni.
The court directed each accused person to be released on a surety bond of Sh. 300,000
The case to be heard on March 9.
