Kilifi, KENYA: Police in Mombasa and Kilifi are trailing a man who escaped after they stormed a house processing fake currency in Shanzu area.

The man who has been identified Johnson Ondego Odhiambo escaped on Friday evening during the raid according to the Kilifi county police commander Frederick Ochieng.

Mr. Ochieng who spoke to journalists at Mtwapa police station on Saturday said that sh 6.7 million was recovered during the raid that was conducted after a tip-off from members of the public.

“ The money was in denominations of sh 1000. Some of them had already been processed while other notes were still undergoing processing,” Ochieng told reporters.

Police have urged members of the public to be vigilant saying some of the notes could already be in circulation.

Police fear that the ring could be borrowing members of the public money and repaying them back using fake currency as last year, the owner of a vehicle which was recovered in the compound of that house had been reported to police officers for defaulting on a soft loan granted to him by his cousin.

The vehicle and the fake currency notes have been detained and they are expected to be used in court as exhibits once the culprits are arrested.
