Kilifi, KENYA:A young man has collapsed and died in Malindi-Alaskan grounds during the ongoing countrywide recruitment of the Kenya Defense Forces.

The incident occurred on Tuesday Afternoon where the man collapsed while running some lapses with other recruits which is a basic requirement during the exercise.

Addressing the media after the incident, Lieutenant-colonel Joseph Nzioka said the Kenya Defense Forces health officers who were on the ground tried to give him first aid before then rushing him to the Tawfiq Hospital in Malindi.

“The young man collapsed during a run here at Alaskan ground,” Colonel Nzioka said.

Nzioka who termed the death as unfortunate said the man died on upon arrival at the Tawfiq hospital.

“We are saddened by the death of a young and energetic young man like him and we pass our condolences to his family and relatives,” he added.

At least four hundred recruits turned up seeking to join the Kenya Defense Forces but there were no opportunities for women.

The exercise is scheduled to take place in Ganze in Kilifi County on Wednesday.
