Two arrested after students miss chemistry practical in Malindi

Kilifi,KENYA:Two school directors have been arrested after their students missed the chemistry practical on Friday morning.

The two directors Ibrahim and Oscar Mirembe who are directors of Brightways secondary school were arrested by officers attached to the Malindi police station as the school staff were wandering to look for equipment facilitate the students conduct the practical.

More than 150 students at the school remained stranded at the school for over 6 hours while their fellow students were busy conducting the practical.

According to the Malindi DCI report, the school lacks electricity, gas , chemicals and laboratory equipment necessary required to facilitate the practical with students complaining that they had not done enough preparation for the examination.

The situation forced the Malindi Sub-county education office to intervene and students were ferried to nearby Barani secondary to sit for their examinations.

Efforts to have the Malindi education office comment on the matter were not successful.
