Nairobi, KENYA: Kenya Airways (KQ) made it’s maiden direct flight to New York on Sunday night.

The inaugural Kenya Airways flight to New York departed from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner  has a capacity of 234 passengers.

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said “The US flights come with many gains to JKIA. Passenger numbers in and out of the airport are growing and we expect the direct flights to significantly boost our numbers.”

The High Court on Friday blocked aviation workers from going on strike that they had planned to hold on the day of the inaugural flight.

Justice Byram Ongaya issued a temporary injunction to the Kenya Aviation Workers Union from enforcing the strike notice until the case is heard.
