Five KDF soldiers killed in Lamu IED attack

Lamu, KENYA: Five Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers were killed and 10 others injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Lamu County.

According to a press statement sent to newsrooms by KDF spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Njuguna, the attack happened around 8am on Wednesday while the soldiers were on a humanitarian civil assignment.

The troops were on their way to fetch and distribute water to the residents when their truck ran over the IED.

“The soldiers hit the explosive along the Kinga and Sankuri road injuring 10 others, both the water bowser and lorry were damaged,” read the statement.

Njuguna called on the locals to assist in weeding out terror elements in the area, at the same time thanking them for assisting the soldiers when the attack happened.
