Lamu, Kenya: Lamu County Assembly has approved nominee John Mburu as the new County Secretary.
The position had been advertised in April this year.
Mburu was nominated by Lamu governor Fahim Twaha for the position in July this year and his name fowarded to the county assembly for vetting.
A motion approving his appointment was tabled in the house on Thursday by Hindi Ward MCA Anab Hajji and was unanimously adapted by all MCAs in the house.
The position was formerly held by Siyat Ibrahim in the previous county government under ex governor Issa Timamy before being taken over by Joyce Murimi in acting capacity who was later dropped in February this year.
Mburu takes the mantle from Julius Okindo who has been holding the post in acting position too.
The new County Secretary holds a Bachelors Degree in Education from Kenyatta University and has previously served as the Deputy Director, Human Resource Management in the County Government of Tana River between 2014 to 2018.
Mburu has also served as the Senior Human Resource Officer in the Office of the President between 2006 to 2014.
Similarly,the County assembly also unanimously passed three Bills including The Lamu County Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2018, Lamu Youth Development Bill 2018 and Lamu County Gender and Social Development Bill 2018, which seeks to ensure that both men and women in the County enjoy equal rights, opportunities and high quality of life.
The Bills now await the governor’s signature.
