Mombasa,KENYA:The Kenyan Medical Research Institute has partnered with Baraka Fm to raise awareness of health research and various public health concerns at the coast region.
The partnership involves the use of media platforms to help create awareness and clear out on various health issues and to help to disseminate knowledge on health education to the people.
The partnership project which will run for a year, will kick off on Thursday with a three day Roadshow covering areas of Mombasa, Bamburi, Shanzu, Mtwapa, Kikambala, Takaungu, Kilifi, Matsangoni, Gede, Watamu and Malindi.
The roadshow will be graced by Baraka FM presenters; Oscar Nyoha and Sammy Mwaura accompanied by performances from Coast musicians Susumila and Kelechi Africana.
A program christened Jukwaa la Utafiti will then begin running every Thursday from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm and the focus will focus on the role of KEMRI and its various successful research conducted in the country .
The program will also shade light on diseases that have in past been a menace in the region like Chikungunya and Rift Valley fever.
KEMRI as a state corporation is tasked with conducting of health research in the country has in the past carried out several successful research programs including the most recent one that was carried out in collaboration with the Liverpool school of tropical medicine.
The research showed that using high doses of Iverctermin on anti malarial drugs could help fight mosquitoes.
Iverctermin is an antiparistic drug used in the treatment of tropical diseases.
