Mombasa, KENYA: Three men among them a student from Kisauni Youth Polytechnic were on Tuesday sentenced to 25 years in jail for gang-raping a 9-year-old boy.

Vitalis Mumanyi, Kelvin Savania and George Omondi are said to have gang-raped the boy on two different days in April 2017.

According to the evidence the accused persons took the complainant to a room where they gang-raped him and threatened to kill him in case he reported to his parents.

They were arrested and detained at Nyali police station after being identified by the complainant.

The trio acknowledged in court to have known both the parents and the complainant but denied being involved in the unlawful act.

“The court found that three accused persons unlawfully and intentionally had anal sex twice with the complainant and threatened to kill him if he reports to his parents,” said senior resident magistrate Edigah Kagoni.

Court termed the offence as serious and it required a stern penalty to protect girls and boys in the society.

“Boys and girls will only be safe if these three people will be taken away from them,”ruled Kagoni.

The court dismissed mitigation from  Omondi claiming that he had a mental disability.

Mr.Kagoni ruled that Omondi had participated actively in court proceedings and he had not produced any medical report earlier.
