Lamu, KENYA: The county government of Lamu has launched a special communication centre that seeks to help tourists navigate their way around the region.

The tourist communication centre which has been set up in Manda island will also help to document details of all tourists visiting Lamu.

Lamu county CEC for Tourism Dismas Mwasambu says the centre is meant to keep the tourist sector in check and also help tourists quickly acquaint themselves with the region for ease of movement whenever they come visiting.

Speaking during the launch of the centre on Monday, Mwasambu said the communication centre shall also offer details and directions to various tourist attraction sites in the county in order to make the stay of any visitor more memorable and easier.

Mwasambu noted that for decades now, Lamu has had a challenge in as far as announcing the tourism sector is concerned and that as such the centre will boost that.

He said the centre will be used to sell the tourism of the county to the rest of the country and also globally.

He said many a times tourists and visitors have failed to know that some attraction sites existed and as such failed to visit them due to the lack of a proper marketing strategy.

The CEC says the new communication centre will now give tourists the liberty to choose from a variety of sites which ones they wish to visit once they set foot in Lamu.

The centre shall also provide a platform for tourists to give recommendations on how better they can be served.

“The center seeks to advertise Lamu as much as possible to any interested party. We are doing all we can to sell the beauty and tourism of this county to the world. The tourists will no longer guess where the sites are as they can now access all information on all of them here. They also get a chance to recommend what they think we should do better in serving them.Tourism is an important sector for Lamu and that’s why all sacrifices are worthy,” said Mwasambu.

The centre also seeks to eliminate cases where tourists have been robbed or mugged by con beach operators as it will also provide names and all details or licensed beach operators in the town.
