Tana River,KENYA: A man in from Malindi ya Ngwena village outskirts of Hola town in Tana River County is nursing injuries at the Hola sub-county hospital after being attacked by a buffalo.
The incident occurred on Friday evening along River Tana.
Confirming the incident county director for KWS Mr. John Wambua told Baraka Fm that the victim and another man who escaped unhurt had just started fishing when the buffalo attacked them.
Mr. Wambua said the victim sustained injuries in his private parts.
The KWS head said he had deployed officers to the ground to investigate the incident adding that such cases were being fuelled by poaching.
“I have sent an officer on the ground to establish whether their allegations are true before preparing reports for compensation,” he said.
“But up to now the report we are relying on is their allegations of being attacked when fishing across river Tana,” Mr. Wambua added.
According to a relative the victim survived death after his colleague who escaped uninjured rescued him from the infuriated mammal.
The incident occurs two weeks after residents complained that buffaloes had been wandering at a minor scheme area near Hola town.
Incidents of Human-Wildlife conflict in Tana River have always been a hot potato in the county.
On Friday a child died and two others went missing after the canoe they were using to cross Tana River capsized after being knocked by a hippopotamus.
