Taita Taveta ,KENYA:A boda boda rider on Sunday evening lost his life after drowning in flood water in Taita Taveta county.
According to eye witnesses, the body of the deceased was found by residents on Monday morning along the Bura Mwatate road.
According to the Mwatate Ocpd Francis Mwangi , the deceased was heading to Mwarisechu from Bura when he encountered flood water in a culvert .
“ He tried to cross the flooded Culvert but unfortunately the water swept him away” Mwangi said.
The incident is said to have happened on Sunday at 8.00 in the evening before area residents found his motorbike lying a few metres from where his body was lying.
The OCPD advised residents to exercise caution whenever they come across flood water.
This comes less than two weeks since two children died after being swept away by flood water in Landi and Lesesia villages in Mwatate and Taveta sub-counties.
In the first case, the deceased who was a pupil at Maili Kumi primary school in Mwatate sub-county was headed home from school when he was swept away by flood water while in the second case the deceased drowned as he was swimming in a former quarry that had been filled in water .
This brings to three the number of people who have died as a result of floods since the long rains started in the county.
