Ten suspects detained over substance trafficking and robbery in Lamu

Lamu,KENYA:Police in Lamu are holding more than ten suspects on grounds of drug trafficking and robbery with violence.

The suspects were arrested in an intense crackdown conducted by police officers over the weekend.

The officers led by Kizingitini OCS Elam Esendi and officers who were drawn from Faza island conducted crackdowns in renowned drug hotspots including Kizingitini,Faza,Pate,Tchundwa,Mbwajumwali and other parts of Lamu East.

Some of the suspects are said to have been causing residents sleepless nights by breaking into houses,robbing people of their phones,motorcycles and much more.

Apart from drug trafficking,they face charges of murder and robbery with violence that have left some of their victims maimed for life.

Those facing charges of murder and robbery with violence are Hassan Ali,Asman Seif,Hussein Mujahid,Shariff Mohamed Famau, Ashraf Athman, Fuad Abuu, Kazungu Kaingu, Dickson Kasena and Fauz Jidale.

They will be arraigned in court anytime from now.

Over 50 drug dealers have been arrested and arraigned in Lamu since last year November when police launched a crackdown.

Lamu county commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo said the crackdown shall proceed until the war on drugs is won.
